Mike Thelwall on webometrics: From online impact measurements to swearing in MySpace

Description:Mike Thelwall will give an introduction to a range of webometric techniques, including some that are designed to be widely useful in the social sciences. The techniques include analysis of the impact of web sites or collections of web sites, analysis of the online impact of documents or collections of documents, and tracking public opinion in blogspace. A range of simple and free techniques will be explained and insights given into more complex methods. Examples will be used to illustrate the methods and their applications and the results of a number of published studies (including one of strong swearing in MySpace) will be briefly summarised.
