GROWL

GROWL

GROWL is a lightweight toolkit based on a client-server architecture and web services. GROWL's aim is to provide user friendly access to GRID resources for applications accessible from desktop computers. The user's Grid enabled application gains access to Grid resources through the installation of some dedicated and light weight client software on his PC. This software enables him to access and communicate with the GROWL server, which in term negotiates and exchanges data with the Grid resources available to the user. An example of the use of GROWL is Grid enabled SABRE as a library to R and STATA.

This example illustrates the strength of the GROWL toolkit and SABRE, together they can provide the user with Grid enabled tools whilst working from within his/her familiar Stata user interface.

We are currently investigating the further opportunities to use GROWL technology to provide Grid enabled access to a number of applications.

A presentation of Grid enabled SABRE, using GROWL technology can be found on the ReDReSS website of Grid enabled SABRE, using GROWL technology can be found on the ReDReSS website.
