The development of grid computing has a lot of potential for statistical analysis, though the new environment also introduces new confidentiality and security issues. This project investigated how disclosure risk assessment can be carried out on a grid. The target application of the project was Statistical Disclosure Control, whose purpose is to prevent the identification of individual population units from released statistical data. This application requires huge amounts of processing power and memory so that even limited searches can take days to complete. In this project, an infrastructure has been developed which enables efficient use of heterogeneous networks of computers and grids for statistical analysis. This work will enable research into the potential benefits to be gained from grid technologies.
